Holiday Recipe: Christmas Ham with a Coffee Glaze

For many families, holiday ham is a tradition that dates back many generations. In fact, the holiday ham itself has a long history. The Christmas Ham, or the Yule Ham, is said to have started back with the Germans who wanted to honor Freyr, a god of paganism.
In the thousands of years since, ham has become a staple meal on Christmas and other holidays such as Easter or Thanksgiving. With so many years eating the same main course at holidays, however, we must admit the Christmas Ham can get boring. Our coffee experts at Coffee Cow found the perfect fix; a modern twist on this traditional holiday staple using none other than coffee!

Christmas Ham with a Coffee & Brown Sugar Glaze
·         1 (5-6 pound) spiral sliced, bone-in ham
·         1/2 cup packed brown sugar
·         1/4 cup brewed dark coffee or espresso
·         1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
·         1 teaspoon black pepper
·         1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
·         1/4 teaspoon fresh ginger

To make the glaze, mix together the brewed dark coffee or espresso, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, salt and black pepper. Cook on low heat for about 5 minutes while stirring often until reduced.
Use the glaze the same way you would use when basting your holiday ham, but swap out your usual glaze for this updated coffee concoction for a holiday to remember. Cut the ham into slices and serve!
Watch your guests swoon at your newly-updated, Pinterest-worthy holiday ham recipe this year.

Coffee Hacks to Save Time and Money

For avid coffee drinkers who spend too much time and money in expensive coffee shops seeking out the perfect cup of coffee, it’s time to start becoming your own barista at home. Here at US Coffee, we have your best interest in mind when it comes to achieving the ultimate coffee fix. With that said, we have some valuable coffee hacks to save you both time and money. Follow these tricks and tips to recreate the coffee drinks you order at the coffee shop at home for less, without sacrificing on flavor or quality.

Cold Brew
You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg at a fancy café to get cold brew coffee, you can make it right at home with your single-serve brewer. For example, brew your favorite café-style drinks at home in under a minute with Nescafé® Dolce Gusto®’s iced cappuccino capsules.

Coffee Ice Cubes
Use the coffee left over from your drip coffee maker for coffee ice cubes. After freezing your left over coffee, add the coffee ice cubes to your iced coffee so it never gets watered down. Another option is to pour milk over the iced cubes for a refreshing iced latte style drink.

Lattes
Make the perfect latte at home by investing in a milk frother, which is an inexpensive way to get that foamy texture we love in our lattes. Another option is to get Flavia Real Milk Froth Freshpacks. First add and brew the Real Milk Froth freshpack, then add the coffee or tea freshpack of your choice for a cafe-style specialty drink!

Coffee Subscription
Just like the countless meal subscription services you see advertised, there are a variety of coffee subscriptions for coffee lovers. Save money and time by ordering your favorite coffee beans, K Cups or ground coffee right to your door.

Coffee Equipment
Having the right coffee equipment at home will save you trips to your local coffee shop, since you will have everything you need to make a fresh cup of coffee right at home. Coffee equipment such as espresso machines, milk frothers, French press, pod brewers and more will save you money in the long-run.

DIY Syrups
Part of the reason we love those expensive trips to the coffee shop is the endless options of flavored coffee. But you can make any flavor you want at home! Stir equal parts water and sugar over low heat until it dissolves, then add the flavor of your choice; vanilla, caramel, pumpkin spice, etc.

Apps
There’s an app for everything these days, and that doesn’t exclude coffee. Download an app that gives you step-by-step directions for making a copycat Starbucks latte or a cold brew that rivals any expensive coffee shop and become a barista in no time.

Salt
Did you know there’s an easy way to reduce that bitter flavor from a bad batch of coffee? Add a pinch of salt to lessen that bitter taste and you don’t have to throw out the batch you already made.

Make Iced Coffee at Home with These Few Easy Steps

Instead of making time-consuming and costly trips to your local café each morning, consider making your iced coffee at home instead.

It’s much easier than you might think, not to mention it can be ready in minutes. With iced coffee season upon us, most of us would prefer an iced beverage in the morning over a hot one, which is why iced coffee is the coffee favorite in spring and summer. All you will need to make your own iced coffee at home is:
·         Grinded coffee beans or ground coffee
·         Ice
·         Drip Coffee maker.

Start with brewing a big batch of coffee in your drip coffee maker. There are two options from here depending on how much time you have. Either store the big coffee batch in a container and refrigerate it overnight, or use double the coffee grounds and instantly pour the coffee over ice. If you go with the instant option, the coffee won’t get watery when the ice melts because it’s double the strength of your usual coffee.

Now that you’re familiar with the steps of making your own iced coffee, there are a few extra tips to make your iced coffee taste like a barista made it. Using quality coffee beans or ground coffee is an important factor in achieving a truly delicious cup of iced coffee at home. Luckily, Coffee Cow has all your favorite brands, including Starbucks.

Another component to making a great cup of iced coffee at home is making your own iced coffee ice cubes. Simply freeze your leftover coffee and the next day, drop them into your iced coffee so that when they melt they add even more coffee flavor to your beverage.

Don’t forget the creamer!

Voila! You can now enjoy iced coffee in the comfort of your own home. Are you surprised at how easy it is?
